Blog Design by Blog Designers - The Blog Studio Before reading this post, I’d have assumed just about everyone had. Now I’m not so sure, and I’m not taking any chances! The Long Tail is why you should be blogging. Chris Anderson, editor of Wired Magazine first wrote an article titled The Long Tail for the October issue of Wired. On the site for his upcoming book, he writes The article about the effect of the technologies that have made it easier for consumers to find and buy niche products, thanks to the “infinite shelf-space effect”—the new distribution mechanisms, from digital downloading to peer-to-peer markets, that break through the bottlenecks of broadcast and traditional bricks and mortar retail. This concept can be applied to services and information as well as things. Blogs are a perfect example of how niche interests are completely doing away with geography. If you’re good, people will come to you from around the world. I’m living proof. I’ve had inquiries from Brazil and Malaysia as well as all over the states. All from my powerbook up here in Toronto. It’s simply amazing. Blogs allow you to focus on a narrow topic, and to find other who share the same interest. How does this apply to real life scenarios? Let’s look at our 3 existing case studies – A bike shop, a realtor, and a used car dealer. The bike shop could focus on a specific type of bike. Take hybrids for example. Be passionate about hybrid bikes. Tell the world about hybrid bikes. Design your own hybrid bike. Sell them to the world.
