When I decided to start a family of my own here in the US, the decision came with lots of challenges and realizations that parenting here in the foreign land is going to be tough and hard. See, I was born and raised in Philippines. I was accustomed to close-knit family culture that when somebody in the family gives birth, everyone is all-out-supportive. I remember my elder sisters who went through some severe cases of first trimester but there were a lot of people around them who helped pulled it through. When it was my chance to get pregnant, a severe morning sickness that I have experienced was really worst and part of the difficulty was that I needed my mom and older sisters to take care of the foods that I wanted to eat. It was tough being just me and my husband. But now, remembering every instance that I have been through, I could just smile at it all as I say, “I’ve been there and I survived! I survived with two wonderful souls who are my daughters.” Actually, I also credit a lot of those virtual venues where I got help from when it comes to dealing with my pregnancy and all necessary information about parenting and child-rearing that I needed to know. A virtual Family forum called Babies Base is actually a great place for moms and moms-to-be. It is always nice when you find the needed things that you have been trying to locate for at a place that you only knew for the first time. In my case before, I had penned down the topics that I wanted to learn as motherhood duties crept in. I have been a mom for over 6 years now and so far, I have enjoyed every single moment of being called Mom.
